Young Explorers' Rock Climbing Overnight Camp

Five days of vertical fun, challenge and learning. This camp is for the young explorer who has taken an interest in rock climbing and likes to get off the ground. The Young Explorers’ Climbing Camp is a unique opportunities for 9 – 12 year olds to who like to rock climb to immerse themselves in a focused climbing camp. Campers may choose either a day camp or overnight camp format. Besides getting a lot of time on the rock, campers will learn important rope skills like knots, belaying and rappelling. Emphasis will be on individual, partner and group safety throughout the week.
When the body tires of climbing there will be time for swimming, hiking and learning outdoor skills such as animal tracking or map and compass skills.
Overnight campers will share in camp tasks such as setting up tents, cooking and cleaning and then have evenings free for active fun and spinning campfire tales. A great week of focused climbing activity that is sure to raise your climbing skill level in a major way. No previous experience is necessary. Climbing gear is provided. Limit: 10.

SAMPLE ITINERARY - Mid Coast / Camden: July 8 - 12
Tuition: $349.00
Day 1: Get to know you games, intro to rope skills, knots and harness making.
Day 2: Rock climbing over the lake.
Day 3: Mount Megunticook hiking and rappelling.
Day 4: Build a cool ropes course and try your elements, basic first aid skills.
Day 5: More rock climbing over the lake.
SAMPLE ITINERARY - Acadia / Bangor: July 29 - August 2
Tuition: $349.00
Day 1: Get to know you games, high ropes course, intro to rope skills.
Day 2: Rock climbing on the coast.
Day 3: Bubble Rock climbing rappelling and hiking.
Day 4: Bouldering at Sand Beach, swimming, natural anchors, basic first aid skills.
Day 5: Sea cliff climbing, tyrolean rope traverse.
OVERNIGHT ACCOMODATIONS
Campers will sleep in tents separated by gender. We stay in public campgrounds such as Bar Harbor Campground and Park’s Pond Campground. Campgrounds have a bath and shower facilities.
MEALS
Overnight campers join the leaders in preparing delicious, healthy camp meals. Vegetarian options are available as. Sample evening meals include pasta with sauce and salad, vegetable stir fry w/ chicken side.
ACADIA OVERNIGHT CLIMBING CAMP MEETING / PICK UP LOCATION
These camps meet on the first day at Alpenglow Adventure Sports / Acadia Mountain Guides Climbing School at 92 Main St. (Route 2), Orono, ME, unless otherwise announced. Meeting time on the first day is 7:30 a.m. Transportation to the climbing areas will be via van. Pick up will be at the same location at 5:30 p.m. on the final day.
CAMDEN OVERNIGHT CLIMBING CAMP MEETING / PICK UP LOCATION
